Cheers to Twenty-Four

Age 23 sucked. There is nothing more I can say about it. I sat in the hospital as I watched my best friend pass away, I fell out of love with friends and family members, and covid-19 shut the world down. I lost myself in many ways but I learned a few lessons along the way.

1.You Do Not Have To Have Everything Figured Out

For so long I wanted to have my life planned out. I put so much pressure on myself that I forgot what I wanted in the process. Covid happened and I found myself applying for a new job that I hated, which lead me to my current job as a virtual tutor and full-time preschool teacher, and this job won’t be my forever either. If you are confused as to what you want, don’t stress.

2. You Will Lose The People Closest To You

Sometimes people are selfish and will blame you for something ending, sometimes it really is your fault. People grow apart for a reason, and this is something you will learn throughout your 20s. You will also grow from this. You can’t force friendships that arent there anymore.

3. The More You Fail, The Closer To Success You Are

At this age, your greatest accomplishment is not your experience, but your time. Time gives you the opportunity to take big risks, risks that may fail you in the long run. When you are this young you have nothing to lose. Maybe you and your friends came up with a crazy idea for an app while you were drunk one night, maybe you wanna travel for a year, and then go back to school. These are things you can only get away with while you are young.

4. Everything Is Going To Work Out

What’s the saying? When one door closes another one opens? This is beyond true. I lost a stable part-time job and had to finish my hardest semester online. From that, I found a full-time job that made me realize I do not wanna work with children forever, and I was able to change my major and still graduate on time. I lost close friendships but gained even closer ones who now feel like family. Every loss is a new gain. Even if it feels like the end of the world, it’s not.

Cheers to 24! Can’t wait to see what this chapter brings.

5 Drinks To Cozy Up To This Fall

whether its traditional, classy or even a fun night out, I have had some of the best drinks to date. While some drinks are classic for a reason, I prefer mine to be fruity, or straight liquor. Since fall is approaching, and this is my prime drinking season (after a hard day at work followed by class), here are my top five drinks.

1. TEQUILA SUNRISE

You’ve heard the song senorita, right? *cue song lyrics that have nothing to do with a tequila sunrise*

Tequila sunrise is # 1 on my list due to the fruity sensation. It’s a bold cocktail made of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine. It’s not so bad on the eyes either. This drink will warm you up, instantly.

2. TRASHCAN

Oh, the days of being freshly 21. During the year of 2018, this was my go-to drink. It is made from gin, vodka, triple sec, light rum, peach schnapps, blue curacao, and red bull. If you’re looking for a quick way to get buzzed, this is the drink for you.

3. SEX IN THE DRIVEWAY

This drink is a way to make, taste delicious, and looks gorgeous. It includes the following; peach schnapps, blue curacao, vodka, crushed iced, sprite, and a garnish of your choice. These make the perfect drink to lounge with at the pool.

4. GAME DAY SANGRIA

Tis’ the season for football falalalalala. One thing I enjoy about gamedays is the drinks and dips that come with it. Gameday sangria involves apple cider, 1 bottle of white wine, ginger ale, hard apple cider, lemon juice, apple slices. and lemon wheels to garnish. This makes watching your favorite football team that much sweeter.

5. SPIKED APPLE CIDER

And finally, we have spiked ( warmed up) apple cider. This is made of literally apple cider, rum, cinnamon sticks, and apples. I like to pour this into my cup while taking my nieces and nephews trick or treating.

Dating As Told By Just Friends

“Jamie doesn’t date nice guys. She puts them in the friendzone and tortures the shit out of them”Chris Brander

I am guilty of this. As women, we can confirm we go for guys who tend to not give us the same respect and energy that we give them, all while ignoring really nice guys. This is really shallow, and we all will learn it at a point.

When a girl decides that you’re her friend, you’re no longer a dating option, you become this complete non- sexual entity in her eyes, like a brother or a lamp.” – Chris Brander

This goes hand and hand with my previous statement. Yet again, Sorry good guys.

I’m Busy too, Stupid D***“- Samantha James

I like to use this line when my dates tell me they don’t have time for me. Even if it’s not true. Why should I look needy just because you can’t make time. Keep them on their toes ladies.

“I Love that your taking me home to meet your mom, was this one of your clever little plans?” – Samantha James

Because how often does this actually happen? I can’t tell you the last time someone actually introduced me to their parents.

“You just have to put yourself out there and hope that they like you back.” – Chris Brander

Because if you don’t try, you won’t ever know the outcome. I like to consider myself a shy person on occasion. Because of this I have missed out on dates with people I wish I would have never let pass by me.

And I want to tell you how beautiful I think you are, Inside and out.”-Chris Brander

This is what every girl wants to hear. I prefer to be told more about my personality, because that means you’re trying to get to know me for me.

Top Five Eateries In Philadelphia

My favorite city in America is Philadelphia. The city, the sports teams, the nightlife, but most importantly the food. I find myself eating in Philadelphia more then I do in New Jersey. So today I am sharing my top 5 Cafes / Restaurants in Philadelphia.

The Mac Mart

As a Mac and Cheese fanatic, I was wary about trying this place out. Would the cheese be good creamy quality? Will there be multiple flavors? Who runs this shop? Well, all of my questions were answered when I had arrived. There are so many options that I had no idea where to begin. I ended up getting the Margarita Mac which had consisted of shredded mozzarella cheese, diced tomatoes, fresh basil, and potato-chip panko crunch.

Elixr Coffee Roasters

I am not the biggest coffee drinker but when I do, I come here. When I first started my blog I would come here and work. Its cute, cozy, and they have the best chai latte I have had to date. They have two locations in Philadelphia, one is in West Philadelphia, and the other being in Center City. Check it out today.

The Lil Pop Shop

I love coming here for their pies, my favorite flavor being Pumpkin + Toasted Marshmellow. This is a great place to take the kids on a day off from school. They also have the best-flavored popsicles I’ve had to date. You can find the popsicles at their two separate locations.

The Gaslight

This was the first restaurant I have ever had in Philadelphia. I had gotten mac and cheese with shredded chicken on top, with a side of seasoned fries. This was a great first experience with Philadelphia food. The seating area is beautiful with lantern lights and it’s great for any first date.

Caribou Cafe

This is one of the more recent places I have eaten at. First glance at the menu and you would second guess going. When I got there I had decided to step out of my comfort zone and get a warm goat cheese salad. It was the best salad I have had to date. Not to mention the french onion soup that is out of this world. If you are looking for good French food, this just might be the place for you.

Forever And Always

What is the meaning of living life? Is it just going to work and having a family? Are you living for other people or yourself? Recently I have been learning what life is really about, and it’s not how most people are living their lives. My last blog post talked about how I lost a few people close to me in the last few years but last week I lost someone I considered my sister. Her name is Breanne. We can call her Bre for short. Bre was the definition of what strength is and what it should look like. Bre was the recipient of an artificial heart from 2016-2019. She received this after her heart transplant rejected. During this time the doctors said she wouldn’t be able to walk. She told them other wise and taught her self to walk again. Any obstacle that came her way, she overcame it. Breanne is my biggest inspiration in life and I never felt that type of love for a friend as I did her. Someone so kind and caring. She always put other people first even though her condition prevented her from living a normal life. She never let that hold her back.
She taught me in life that I absolutely have to not have limits and just live for me and in to live in the moment. While some of her days weren’t the best she made sure the next day was even better.
Have you ever heard of sunshine on a rainy day? That was Breanne. Breanne makes me want to better myself for me and everyone around me and not give a second thought about what anyone else thinks.
I will never forget the time I was going through a break up while she was in the hospital unsure of how her outcome was going to be. She told me to never feel bad for crying about my problems in front because nobody’s problems are more meaningful then the others.

I will forever be grateful for our friendship and all the life lessons you have shared with me. Love you forever sunshine. Nothing can take that away
She shared some of her writings about her journey that could really brighten up anyone’s day.

As Long As You Feel The Pain, You’re Still Alive

As long as you feel the pain, you’re still alive, is my favorite quote of all time. Susan Gale coined this quote a few years back and it has since stuck with me. To me, I have lost 3 people in the last few years to untimely deaths and it just reminds me to feel alive, even in my lowest moments.

I use to think I felt “dead”. I didn’t understand my reasoning of being here on earth. I couldn’t find any hobbies, my passion for writing was gone, and quite frankly sometimes I still don’t see my purpose. (See my previous post) That’s not what this blog is going to be about today. The reason I started writing was to make differences in peoples lives, not tell them it’s okay to feel lost.

Pain doesn’t define you, nor will it ever. Pain in this life will NEVER stop coming your way. There will always be something, or someone we wish we could change. The weight this brings on you, is how you treat and handle the stress that comes along with it. You can either sulk in your own feelings, or change for the better.

I have friends who have dealt with suicidal thoughts, infertility, substance abuse, and everything in between. Every single one of them has managed to pull themselves out of it or make the best of every situation. dying, not getting pregnant, and using drugs to soothe the pain you feel is not the end of you.

I know change can seem intimidating, but everything will fall into place with faith and trust in yourself. When I am feeling lost I have a tendency to do unpredictable things and go to lengths I would never do, just to feel anything. Whether it’s taking a trip to the beach, getting a tattoo, or even typing up an article, I have done it all. You have to find your happy medium because pain is only temporary. Why waste your life dwelling on something you can’t change. Come alive, just don’t exist.

As long as you feel the pain your still alive, as long as you make mistakes you’re still human, and as long as you keep trying, there’s still hope.
